Teddy

Teddy is a 5 year old male Cross-Breed of medium size. He is reactive to new people who enter the home and will need a household with very minimal visitors and a quiet, separate space where he can feel secure. He accepts a collar and lead but can struggle with anxiety on his walks. Teddy can be strong on the lead and does pull, though he loves to sniff around. He is reactive towards dogs when out walking, though he generally ignores other people. He is toilet trained and can be left alone with no issues. Teddy sleeps well overnight. Teddy is a very sweet-natured boy once you get to know him. He loves a cuddle, playing with his ball, and having treats. However, he is still an incredibly nervous and anxious dog and seems to be scared of almost everything. In other ways, he is a dream dog: he can be left alone without any issues, he toilets outside and lets you know when he needs to go out, and he has never been destructive or shown separation anxiety. He currently eats a raw diet with natural treats and does well on it. He has lots of toys but really only shows interest in a ball, which he loves to chase and play fetch with on walks. Teddy can be difficult to train because he is not very food motivated when stressed or nervous — which is most of the time. For example, he won’t take treats of any kind on a walk, which makes distraction and reward-based training a challenge. Despite this, his recall off lead is actually very good. He loves to run and stretch his legs but won’t stray far and will come back willingly to have his lead put on. He is muzzle trained and will wear it comfortably if needed on a walk. Teddy is very clever and learns quickly, but he needs an experienced, patient owner who can help him overcome his fears and enjoy life more fully.
